What are stock images?
Everybody wants to use stunning photographs for their content. Photography has always been an integral part of design. But unfortunately, these images are very expensive. Thankfully, there’s been a growing number of websites with beautiful free photography popping up all over the web. These are called as stock images.
Many of these photographs are free from copyright restrictions or licensed under creative commons public domain dedication. This means you can copy, modify, distribute and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, all without asking permission.
Here is a selection of top 5 beautiful free stock photo websites to get high resolution images.
What are the best websites for stock images?
1. Pexels
Pexels provides high quality and completely free stock photos. There is no attribution required. I personally like this website as all the images are labelled nicely and are easily searchable.
2. Pixabay
Pixabay is another website with a large collection of photos donated by various people. This website is highly organised and absolutely free.
3. Usual Queries
Usual Queries, the website you are reading, is surprisingly an amazing source of free stock images. All the images are taken from non-copyright sources. They can be used freely without attribution. However, attribution is always appreciated.
4. Wikipedia
Strange but true, all the images on Wikipedia are free to use.
5. Unsplash
Unsplash is another great website you can go to for free stock images.
Posts before October 2021 have been marked as "Old Posts". Less likely, but they might have out dated or incorrect information, ugly looking bits of code, no labels, etc. Don't get me wrong, many of these posts are top-notch and interesting too.
I thought it would be better not to delete or revamp these posts, even if they suck. The bitter truth is that old works always suck, but I take that as a positive tool to convey that I am growing. Besides there's no better way to showcase my journey without these old, messy, poorly written posts!
