What is a Moveable Bridge??
A moveable bridge is a bridge that moves and allows passage for boats and trains. These types of brides are constructed due to interference of geographical landforms such as valleys, rivers, etc. that block the modes of transportation. Their main advantage is low building cost due to absence of long approaches and high piers (pillars). And their main disadvantages are accident incidents, traffic jams and high maintenance costs.
What are some common types of movable bridges?
1. Drawbridge: In this type of bridge, the bridge deck is hedged on one end.
2. Bascule Bridge: This type of bridge lifts from the centre at two sides like the London Bridge.
3. Folding Bridge: It is a drawbridge with multiple sections that collapses horizontally.
5. Vertical-lifting Bridge: Here the bridge deck is mounted with cables and the bridge deck is lifted with those cables.
6. Table Bridge: It is just like Vertical-lifting Bridge but instead it is not pulled by mounted cables but the bridge deck rises up by a underneath lifting mechanism.
7. Thrust Bridge or Retractable Bridge: This bridge retracts on one end.
8. Submersible Bridge: This bridge submerges totally in water. It is only possible on rivers.
9. Tilt Bridge: This bridge is pivoted at each end is lifted at an angle.
10. Swing Bridge: This type of bridge allows its deck to rotate around the centre.
11. Transporter Bridge: It is just like a ropeway where cars are transported from one point to another.
13. Lock: This bridge is only possible on canals where it is open all the time for waterways and when road is to be opened, the water flow is blocked for sometime.
Posts before October 2021 have been marked as "Old Posts". Less likely, but they might have out dated or incorrect information, ugly looking bits of code, no labels, etc. Don't get me wrong, many of these posts are top-notch and interesting too.
I thought it would be better not to delete or revamp these posts, even if they suck. The bitter truth is that old works always suck, but I take that as a positive tool to convey that I am growing. Besides there's no better way to showcase my journey without these old, messy, poorly written posts!
