Why do silicone phone cases turn yellow?
Silicone is a popular polymer that is used mostly in transparent phone cases. However, older the silicone covers get, the more yellowish they become. This natural process is accelerated when they are exposed to excessive amounts of chemicals, light and heat; which is quite abundant near a phone! Thus silicone degrade and as a result it turns yellow.
How to prevent silicone phone cases from turning yellow?
The reaction of silicone turning yellow is slow and unstoppable. You have no option than to throw your old case and buy a new one. But there is something you can do to slow down this yellowing...
You can clean the case with dish soap weekly. This will reduce the sticking of chemicals and oils and thus it will be a bit clearer. Scrubbing lightly with baking soda also helps a lot. And thirdly and lastly, you can disinfect the case with rubbing alcohol. These 3 steps might reduce the yellowing of the case.
