Why do we blink our eyes?

One minute is very important. What can happen in a minute??? Hmm... But if you know, we blink our eyes almost 15-20 times a minute. Wait... Yes. But why do we blink our eyes???

Why do we blink our eyes?

An average blink need 400 milliseconds, but it may vary based on various factors. When we blink our eyes, our eyelids spread a liquid consisting of water, mucus and other oils on the surface of the eye. This helps our eyes from drying away and keeps the eyeballs moisturised. It also clears away the dust particles on the cornea (outermost membrane of the eye).

Why don't we experience blackouts when we blink our eyes?

But then why don't we experience darkness when we blink our eyes? Recent research reports state that human brains have the talent to ignore momentary blackouts. So we see the world as continuous.

Conclusion

We blink our eyes in order to lubricate and moisturize the eyeball. And we don't experience blackouts while blinking as our brain has the capacity to ignore.

So next time you play a staring competition, you know that a blink matters...
