Why do we have two eyes?

Ever wondered that why do we have two eyes? I mean that we see the same with both the eyes. Then why do we have two eyes?

Both our eyes work together and help us to see, judge and perceive a view or an object accurately.

Having two eyes provides us with a wider field of view. How? Let's see...

When both of our eyes are open, we get a horizontal field of view of about 180 degrees. However, with only one eye open, we get a horizontal field of view of only around 150 degrees. We are unable to view around 20 to 30 degrees. Hence, we are not able to see objects kept to the right side with left eye and to the left side with right eye. Both need to work simultaneously.

Still not satisfied about our two eyes? Here's one more reason.

Both of our eyes view an object with slightly different angle. That is why we see objects differently with different eyes. Our eyes send these two slightly different images to the brain which then blends it together. And this we see a tha dimensional image of the object we are viewing.

A three dimensional image helps us to understand how far or how near an object is from us, facilitating better depth or distance perception.

This means having two eyes enables us to judge the distance of the object or the depth at which the object is placed from us.

A person with one eyes would lack behind from us in depth perception, understanding distances, etc. He will also view a two dimensional image. Not only this, such a person will have less viewing angle and wouldn't be able to percieve a view of an object accurately.
