Doraemon and time travel. Understanding time travel #3

Doraemon and time travel. Understanding time travel #3

You all guys might be familiar with Doraemon. If you don't know Doraemon, your childhood was 100% ruined! He was perhaps the best science teacher to  teach se hypothetical concepts. Like the Flat Earth Theory, Simulation of Earth, and ofcourse what fascinated most of us including me was the time travel...

He can travel into the past and into the future with his time machine. In his time travel machine Doraemon can go back to a past event he didn’t like and change the event to create a different result, a different future. Also he can go to the future to see what it would be like and change that when he returned to the present! But is that all true? Let's know about it today...

Well, although the cartoon/ manga series features many of the Doraemon's techno savvy gadgets, I think the time machine has been the most popular one. The TV series started with this gadget, ended with this gadget and has many episodes featuring this gadget.

If you remember the first episode, Sewashi, Nobita's grandson pops out of the drawer and tells Nobita that due to so many failures in his life, his descendants are facing many problems in the future and so he sent a car robot for Nobita's help. He also states that Nobita gets married to Jaiko, Gian's sister, but the show then reveals later that he is going to be married to Shizuka. Others might see it a less important thing. But there's lot it has to say. It apparently states that time travel can change the present/future if the past is changed. For the people who are still confused, read this:

Consider Sewashi's time as present. He went to the past and altered it. If he didn't alter the past, Nobita would have married to Gian's sister Jaiko. But because the past was changed, the present also changed to Nobita marrying Shizuka.

This discussion brings us to the next example: In the "Nobita disappeared?" episode, Nobita and Doraemon go into the past to help his future dad pursue his dream of becoming an artist. But by doing so, he seemed to change the past by which his mom and dad would have never met and Nobita wouldn't exist, similar to the Grandpa Paradox. Doraemon fears this would happen and both of them try their best to make his mom and dad meet. But they fail. Yet, his dad ends up meeting his mom anyway and they fall in love. Now the point here to note is that Nobisuke meets Tamako while leaving Kaneko's house and probably would never have been there if Nobita would have never interfered in the past.

This is really kinda confusing, a bit deep. But people who are creative about time travel can easily visualise what is happening.

A same concept can be seen in the episode in which Nobita hears a tale from his dad, when he was young he meet a weird girl that gave him some chocolate. Wondering on the identity of the girl, Nobita and Doraemon use the time machine again. Due to some weird series of events, Nobita ends up to be the one his young dad saw in the first place. This means that the girl would have never been seen by Nobita's dad if Nobita didn't interfere in the past.

This event becomes so confusing and loops inside itself that it is better to leave it at this point.

Ambiguity is regarding episodes like the one where a coin is stolen from an house, and there is no sign of infraction. Suneo points out that the only one able to perform such feat would be Doraemon using his Anywhere Door. Doraemon proceeds to go to the past to see what really happened, but when he find nothing he decides to take the coin to avoid it being stolen. He quickly realises he just caused the coin disappearance. Here multiverse theory steps in which itself is not fully proven and causes a doubt about this happening in real life (if time travel existed).

Similar is the case in which after watching a movie of a rich kid being kidnapped and held for ransom, Suneo has an extreme paranoia of himself being kidnapped. Fearing for his safety, he hires Doraemon and Nobita as his bodyguards. Under Suneo's request, the two bodyguards follow Suneo to his tuition. After turning at the corner however, Suneo mysteriously disappears! Doraemon and Nobita use the Time Machine to find the culprit and possible route, first suspecting a man (who wants to use a toilet) and a female driver (who is innocent). After repeated failures and so many time travels in their investigations, Doraemon decides to protect Suneo by using Anywhere Purse to pull Suneo to them the moment that he disappeared, only to discover that the culprits are infact, themselves!

Inherently, all the time travel shown in Doraemon is true and all the concepts will be discussed in the upcoming posts! So, well, let's end up here for today. And Doraemon, the cartoon that not only taught us values like integrity, respect, family, courage and perseverance, but also amazing science concepts like the formation of solar system, gravity, time travel, etc. and that too in our childhood! Hope you liked the post. Comment below your thoughts regarding this post and any time travel doubts are always welcome.
