Why is egg egg shaped?

Have you ever wondered that why is the egg shaped the way it is? Umm... if no, keep reading.

Eggs are not perfectly spherical. They taper to one end. Scientists hypothesize that since the tapered end provides more surface area for the muscles of the mother bird to act on, it helps the mother birds to squeeze the egg out easily. This asymmetric shape also allows the eggs to fit tightly together, keeping them warm.

Also, if the egg gets pushed slightly, it will roll in a circle and probably stay in the nest. A spherical egg would roll straight and fall off. Another reason for eggs to be egg shaped is that they fit together quite snugly in the nest, with only small air spaces between them. This means the eggs radiate their heat onto each other, and keep each other warm. And of course, due to egg shape, you can fit more eggs into the nest.

This would have never been the case if it was rectangular or perfectly circular.
